About ShopReady

A conformance tester for agentic checkout. Point it at a store and it tells you whether AI shopping agents can actually buy from it, and exactly where the store departs from the UCP or ACP spec.

Why it exists

Specs are only as good as their implementations. As stores rush to support AI shopping agents, the same handful of mistakes keep showing up: a retried "place order" that charges twice, prices sent as dollars instead of cents, errors in the wrong shape, a profile served with the wrong cache headers so agents can't even discover the store. Each one breaks an agent in production, quietly.

ShopReady reads the specs literally and turns every MUST and SHOULD into a check that cites its section, the same way h2spec does for HTTP/2.

What makes it different

It makes real calls

Beyond reading discovery files, it drives a checkout end to end (create, update, complete, cancel) and shows every request and response.

REST and MCP

Most AI assistants talk to stores over MCP. ShopReady tests the MCP binding properly: handshake, JSON-RPC envelopes, structured results.

Behaviour, not just format

Idempotency and retry safety, the rules that stop double charges, are tested directly instead of assumed.

Built from the committee table

Written by someone who works on these protocols, so it tests the parts of the spec that are easy to get wrong, and flags where the specs themselves disagree.

About me

Shubham Kokul

Staff Software Engineer · Payments and agentic commerce

I'm a Staff Software Engineer at PayPal, where I work on Agentic Checkout in the Branded Checkout domain: making it possible for AI agents to complete purchases safely on a buyer's behalf. I'm also a member of the UCP and ACP protocol committees.

I have 9+ years of experience building distributed systems and payments infrastructure, mostly in Java and Go. Before PayPal I worked on trade execution at Goldman Sachs.

I build ShopReady and other small, useful tools under SolutionByHour, on my own time.

Disclaimer

ShopReady is a personal, independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official tool of PayPal, Google, OpenAI, Stripe, Shopify, or the UCP and ACP protocol committees. Views and interpretations of the specs are my own. Committee membership does not make these checks an official conformance suite; where a spec is ambiguous, the tool says so.

ShopReady only runs read-only checks against live stores unless you explicitly start a checkout yourself. Completing a checkout on a live store asks for confirmation first, because it can place a real order.
